Town of Maine, NY (WBNG Binghamton) For the first time in more than a year, a 22-year-old returns home to hugs, applause and appreciation. Joseph Kane, a Maine-Endwell graduate, has been serving in the army for two and a half years. Kane was stationed at the 173rd Airborne unit in Italy. During his time there, he was deployed to Afghanistan for six months.. Kane says he has been counting down the days to his return home and was surprised so many people came to welcome him back. Now that he is home, Kane says he has a lot on his 'to-do' list. "Hanging out with my friends, catching up," Kane said. "I'm probably going to go to a B-Sens hockey game, hang out with my nephew and just spend time with family and friends." His mom says she's happy he's safe and excited she can see him everyday. "It's going to be really nice to have him home, and that I can see his face," Michele Kane said. "Otherwise, we're just sending notes back and forth. 'How's it going, and what are you doing, how's the weather over there.'" Kane says he's thankful for the opportunity to see the world and is considering re-enlisting.
