Kirkwood, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Holiday travel is underway with more people are expected to hit the road for Labor Day Weekend.
But with the potential for a hurricane to touch down on the coast, will people keep their travel plans?
Action News Reporter Leigh Dana has the story.
It's the last hurrah for summer vacationers.
"Where you headed to Labor Day weekend?" "We're going to Thousand Islands in New York." "Do you always go there on Labor Day weekend?" "Yes, we do," explained Cindy Morris from Delaware.
Action News caught up with travelers at the Kirkwood rest stop along Route 81.
Some don't usually head out of town for the Holiday.
"We try not to most of the time because of the heavy traffic. But we left early this time, we left Wednesday," said Rosalee Bottner of Sarasota, Florida.
AAA expects about 10% more people to be traveling over this Labor Day Holiday Weekend than they did last year.
They expect about 91% of those travelers to be traveling by car.
The Pelton Family from Syracuse is hitting the highway for New York City to relax one last time before the kids trek off to school next week.
For them, Hurricane Earl is no obstacle if it hits them as it heads up the east coast.
"We have umbrellas and we'll make the best of it if it does." "So you did pack just in case? "Yep, just in case," said Diane Pelton of Syracuse.
On the other hand, Cathy Swarbrick from Buffalo is packing rather lightly for South Jersey.
"You got any rain gear here?" "No I am planning ahead. I 'm thinking ahead it won't happen," Swarbrick said. "A little optimistic, I like that."
Making the best of one final getaway before driving straight ahead on into Fall.
