Abdelazim Retains Old Job

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Tarik Abdelazim is back in his role as director of planning, housing, and community development in Binghamton.

Tarik stepped down from the position in April as he first contemplated running for Broome County Executive.

Because an agency associated with planning development is partially funded by federal funds, he wasn't allowed to run for public office while holding the position.

Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan said he is happy to have him back in his old role.

"I'm glad to have him back. He's a great asset and he's really got a great vision for the planning department and what he can accomplish in the city," said Ryan.

Abdelazim previously told Action News he doesn't plan on running for mayor when Ryan's term is up at the end of 2013.
