Abortion Requirement Spurs Change for Local Planned Parenthood

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Planned Parenthood of South Central New York will change its name because of a requirement by the national federation that will force all local offices to perform abortions by 2013.

In a news release issued Wednesday evening, officials with Planned Parenthood of South Central New York said the local offices will become an independent organization next year.

It will be called Family Planning of South Central New York.

If the local office were to comply with Planned Parenthood Federation's requirement, they would be "duplicating services already offered in our region"

According to the release, the new organization will maintain the same staff and the same offices in Binghamton, Norwich, Oneonta, Sidney and Walton.

It will also provide the same medical and educational services they offer now.

None of the regional offices perform abortions.
