Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) In the middle of Police Week, the Binghamton Police Department took time to honor their own officers and local residents.

BPD held its annual Awards Ceremony at City Hall Thursday afternoon.

Mayor Matt Ryan and Police Chief Joseph Zikuski handed out 18 awards to officers and civilians for exemplary service in 2012.

Patrolman Ben Conklin received three awards, but he says one carries most of the weight.

"Finding a stolen car, pulled off the road, kind of a foot pursuit and one of the guys ran from the vehicle," Conklin said.

The suspect was eventually apprehended.

Zikuski says mostly patrol officers were awarded during the ceremony, but BPD also honored five civilians for helping the department make arrests.

Dave Wroblewski, 30, of Binghamton, helped police find and arrest a robbery suspect in July 2012.

"Kind of a little overwhelming, kind of a little pleasing. I happened to be at the wrong spot at the right time. I feel proud," Wroblewski said.
