Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Here's another way people continue to step up to help those affected by the flood of 2011.
A group of Binghamton University students presented a check for one thousand seven hundred and ninety dollars to the American Red Cross Wednesday afternoon.
The four students were already volunteering in the shelter at the events center.
They decided they wanted to do more.
So, they took to their communities, and collected money from their friends and classmates.
Sophomore Alexandra Charen said they were looking to help in any way they could.
"We didn't know if we could donate clothes or blankets, and we found out we couldn't because we couldn't guarantee everyone would get something, but we still wanted to help," said Charen.
The Red Cross says the number of people in the local shelters is declining, but they do not yet have a timeline as to when the shelters will close.
