Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) There will be a fourth candidate for a seat on Binghamton's City Court.
Republican Mike Baker made his announcement Monday evening in downtown Binghamton in front of a room of supporters.
"I look at this as a point in my career," said Baker. "I think I'm ready to take that experience and judgement to have a seat on the Binghamton City Court this fall."
He is currently a senior assistant public defender for Broome County and has been practicing law in the area since 1997.
"I think what sets me apart is that experience," said Baker. "It's that experience of being in that court on a regular basis."
According to Baker, some of the biggest issues the city is facing are drug addiction, mental health and the relocation of student housing downtown.
He is the fourth candidate to run for three open seats on the bench.
The election is in November.
The term for city court judge is 10 years with an annual salary of $133,000.
