Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A banner now hangs in Owego-Apalachin Middle School to honor a beloved English teacher and to encourage reading throughout families.
The donation is to remember Jim Connor.
Connor taught for 32 years at the Owego Apalachin School District.
He died unexpectedly in August.
"Jim was patient, he was coordinated, he was caring of kids and above all he loved teaching, he loved working with colleagues. He was amazing," said former colleague Stephanie Mills.
A group of Connor's colleagues are also donating books to the Family Reading Partnership.
"When we all received the unexpected news of his passing we knew a bouquet of flowers wasn't nearly going to be enough, we wanted to give back a little bit to O-F-A, the middle school, and the partnership if we could," said Mills.
The non-profit organization is holding its second annual BookFest this Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Students in preschool through second grade in the Owego Apalachin district were given a free book with invitations inside to attend.
There will be local authors and entertainment for kids while promoting reading during early childhood.
