Basement fire destroys complex, injures two

Town of Chenango (WBNG Binghamton) A building was destroyed and two people taken to the hospital after an apartment complex goes up in flames early Sunday morning.

Officials say the fire broke out around 5 a.m. at 1009 Castle Creek Road, the location of one of two Glen View Apartment buildings.

Fire Chief Dave Leader said the fire broke started in one of the basement apartments.

The two people living in that apartment were taken to Wilson Hospital for smoke inhalation.

Leader said the fire ran up the left side of the building and the complex was destroyed.

Seven fire departments responded and had the fire under control around 5:30 a.m.

The status of the two victims was unknown as of Sunday evening.

The investigation into what caused the fire is ongoing.
