Conklin, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Three days of sunshine and warmth came just in time for Memorial Day Weekend, and gave people a taste of summer.
"We figured the parks would be kind of full so we just decided to come here, the kids have a lot of fun with it," said Julia Sprague of Binghamton.
Sprague and her family spent Monday afternoon at the Sprinkler Park at CFJ Park in Johnson City.
With areas of the Twin Tiers hitting the low 80s during the afternoon, the Spragues had good company at the park.
Binghamton native Nate Evans donned his swim trunks on Monday and said the day could not be more perfect.
"Things can't get better than this," he decided.
Memorial Day Weekend 2013 wasn't as consistently warm as this year's, and locals seemed to take notice.
"After that brutal winter and cold start, it's been great to get out and do whatever you want," said Brian Adams after enjoying an ice cream cone at Pa's Sugar Shack in Conklin.
The usual flavors were being served up all afternoon, but Pa's gelato was a hit over the weekend as well.
Memorial Day Weekend means the opening of many town pools and parks across the Southern Tier. While many consider it the unofficial start of summer, the official date is less than a month away, June 21.
