February 14, 2012 Updated Feb 14, 2012 at 6:25 PM EDT

Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Six months after flood waters rushed in to the Tioga County courthouse, construction to repair the damage in the basement is near.

The Tioga County Legislature approved a resolution at its meeting on Tuesday, February 14 to award a bid for the repairs to the courthouse basement.

In September 2011, the basement was flooded during Tropical Storm Lee.

W.L. Kline of Binghamton was awarded the bid. The contractor was the lowest bidder. The total amount is for $198,000.

Judith Quigley, Tioga County Attorney, says flood waters were confined to the courthouse basement. She says cleaning and wiring need to be done as well as replacing both the elevator and boiler.

The basement housed security offices, conference rooms for lawyers and waiting rooms for the court.

Visitors enter the court house on the Main Street side now. The Park Street entrance remains closed.
