Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Major improvements are coming to the Tri-Cities airport with the help of a $1.4 million federal grant.

The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded the funding, which is planned to be used for the milling and paving of nearly 4,000 ft. of runway. Endicott Mayor John Bertoni says the upgrades will help maintain the structural integrity of the airport.

"We've built -- through the state and federal funds -- more hangers, they're all rented, they're all leased out, and that's what makes money and this is going to be a big plus with the new runway," explained Bertoni.

A timeline for the project has yet to be decided. Tri-Cities Airport features 24hr. self-service fuel, a flying club and an active Pilot's Association.
