Town of Dickinson, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A big check helps one rehabilitation center serve its clients' needs.

ACHIEVE received a $135,000 check from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield that will be used on its Day Habilitation Program.

Specifically, the money was spent on an overhead lift track system. It's designed to help those unable to move independently, and runs through the facility's core room, training rooms and bathrooms. It's designed to increase safety and movement for both the ACHIEVE staff and its patients.

“It helps prevent falls. It helps to prevent individuals from slipping. It helps them to be a little bit more ambulatory in trying to get them from one location to another," said ACHEIVE's CEO Mary Jo Thorn.

The donation covered half the cost of the lift system.

The new lift is replacing an older manual version.
