Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) New information Friday on the arrest of a Binghamton University Professor accused of falsifying business records.
According to court documents, Seshu Desu, altered an airline travel business receipt by $400.
He was traveling from Hartford, Connecticut to Chennai, India, and was reimbursed $1985 for the trip.
However, the actual plane ticket amounted to $1585.
An audit by the Binghamton University Research Foundation for scholarly activity caught the false entry.
Desu was arrested Thursday after a full investigation of his travel receipts and reimbursement dating back several years.
Desu is a tenured faculty member and the director of the Center For Autonomous Power.
He is currently suspended without pay.
An investigation is ongoing,
The University has also launched a personnel investigation.
Desu is charged with a Class E felony.
Additional charges are pending.
President Magrath has issued the following statement:
"An investigation conducted by New York State University Police led to the arrest of a faculty member at Binghamton University earlier today.
The alleged actions of this faculty member are a tremendous disappointment, and I am proud of the diligence and professionalism displayed by our University Police during the course of this investigation.
Since my arrival here, I’ve said Binghamton University will continue to be committed to promoting the highest standards of ethical conduct by faculty, staff and students, and will not tolerate violations of those standards under any circumstances."
