Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) - Binghamton University wants to increase its enrollment by 2,000 students during the next five years.

The plan is the second piece of the campus' SUNY 2020 project.

This Fall, 400 more students more freshman will be on campus than in year's past.

In an effort to jump start the process, the school has already prepared for the expected increase in students.

"We've had some special programs put in place for this fall semester's students as well as some targeted financial aid that will help meet the need of those students who are very high merit but also in a high need category," said Dr. Harvey Stenger, Binghamton University President.

More faculty members will be hired to keep up with the number of students.

Around 150 more plan to be on board in the coming years to help drop the ratio of faculty to students.

This means smaller class sizes, and an increase in the number of class options.
