Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The city of Binghamton won a New York award for its efforts in making City Hall more accessible through technology.
The city of Binghamton took a moment to recognize its IT staff, which was awarded by the Center for Digital Government.
The award was for the IT department's work in helping build the city's technological infrastructure to bring its services up to the 21st century, including creating a virtual City Hall where data can be shared among departments, and city payments can be made online.
Mayor Matt Ryan congratulated his IT department, but added there's more work to be done.
"If we truly want to take advantage of all the technology upgrades we've made. We must make these important investments for the good of our residents," Ryan said.
The city has proposed in its 2014 budget to create a Chief Information Officer and consolidate all IT workers into a new Information Management and Information Technology Department.
