Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Binghamton Mayor Rich David joined code enforcement investigators on targeted sweeps of city neighborhoods.
The mayor joined a half-dozen code enforcement officers in a west side neighborhood to hand out citations. They ranged from improper placement of trash to more dangerous issues like unsafe sidewalk or porch conditions.
Friday's sweep was the third of five the city is conducting in areas it's designated as problem neighborhoods.
"What we want to do is by focusing on an area, and by putting all of our resources in an area, our goal is to have a noticeable visual improvement," Mayor David said.
The city handed out 80 violations in its first sweep on the north side and another 60 violations on the Front Street corridor between Otsiningo Park and Main Street.
Violators have a minimum of ten days to correct any violations.
