Bishop Cunningham discusses church reorganization

January 21, 2014 Updated Jan 21, 2014 at 5:39 PM EDT

Johnson City, NY ( WBNG Binghamton) The Syracuse Diocese Bishop gave an update Tuesday on plans to deal with the shortage of priests for area catholic churches.

Bishop Robert Cunningham said mass this morning at St. James Church in Johnson City.

Cunningham says there's still no decision on what reorganization will mean for local parishes.

The local parishes have only held one meeting to start coming up with a plan to consolidate churches.

"We're waiting to hear from the people of the area and what they think might be a possible solution to a situation where we have fewer and fewer people and less priests," Bishop Robert Cunningham said.

Bishop Cunningham says the parishes have a few more meetings scheduled.

There's no deadline for when they must respond to the diocese with a consolidation plan.
