Binghamton (WBNG Binghamton) Animal lovers and their pets came out to Seton Catholic Central on Sunday for the "Blessing of the Animals."

The tradition is in honor of the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi.

Creatures large and small - everything from dogs and cats to hamsters and gerbils were among the pets being blessed.

One local animal owner came down with his retired racing greyhound, a dog that he said is more than just a pet.

"Lanche is not only a pet but he visits nursing homes and schools as a therapy dog. So we're here to make sure that the good lord blesses him," Said Lewrence Burns.

Sunday's blessings were performed by the Franciscan Friars of St. Cyril and Methodius Church in Binghamton.
