Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Business owners are looking to strengthen the local economy with help from experts.

On Monday, seven volunteers with the International Economic Development Association met with Town of Union business owners to get a handle on what they're facing.

The meeting focused on bringing stability to the local economic atmosphere, and rising above future disasters.

"We're hoping to get new ideas and examples from other communities that have had issues with flooding, downtown redevelopment," said Town of Union Economic Development Director Joe Moody.

Owners representing several businesses such as ETM Solar Works, Carousel Cafe, and Dawn's Cakes spoke about the need for businesses to work together through the process to bring back a thriving and successful economy.

Moody said that it is important to put all the cards on the table to achieve progress, "It's the positive and the negative, what's great about this community, what are our weaknesses, and what's positive, what are our strengths?"

The volunteer panel said that one of the goals for the Town of Union should be solidarity in dealing with future crises.

Several more meetings will be held over the week to draw a report of suggestions for the Town to get businesses on track.
