Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Local leaders celebrated contributions made to the community at an annual breakfast and awards ceremony.

The Broome Leadership Institute's Alumni Association Board hosted the ceremony at the Binghamton Club Thursday morning.

A check for $5,000 was presented to OurSpace at Binghamton's Recreation Park.

The 2014 graduating class of the Broome Leadership Institute (BLI) raised the money as part of their class project fundraiser.

The money will make Rec Park more accessible to those with special needs.

"The donation of the 2014 class BLI gave to is a great initiative to redo Rec Park in Binghamton for children with disabilities. But ultimately, for our community," said Tom Novak, a 2014 graduate.

Along with the check presentation, BLI gave its annual Alumni of Distinction Award.

This year's recipient was Jeff Lake, a regional president of NBT bank and a 1990s graduate of BLI.
