Police: Burglar accused of attacking 88-year-old man

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A woman is charged with burglary after police said she entered a home and attacked an 88-year-old man.

At 5 a.m. on Aug. 7, Binghamton Police responded to a home invasion at 65 Cleveland Ave.

Valerie Fleming-Spencer, 54, of Johnson City is accused of entering the home through an unlocked door and attacking an 88-year-old resident while armed with a knife.

Police said the man was able to fight off Fleming-Spencer. Police believe they have recovered the knife used in the attack.

On Aug. 12, police arrested Fleming-Spencer and charged her with burglary in the first degree.

Police said the resident suffered minor injuries to his hands and face.

The investigation is continuing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Binghamton Police Detective Bureau at (607) 772-7080.
