Candor, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The community of Candor will be joining together Friday night for a candlelight memorial for Dominic Sorrentino.

The 13-year old was playing in a tree in his backyard last week when a branch snapped, sending him to the ground and into cardiac arrest with a broken neck. Dominic's father and emergency medics performed CPR, but he was unresponsive.

At the time, the family was already reeling, following the death of Dominic's mother, who lost her battle with breast cancer.

That's left Dominic's father to raise three boys alone.

"The community is taking this very hard. The three boys and the father, they're all alone. They've got to continue on, so that's the purpose behind this event, to support them through this tough time," said Ryan Benjamin, co-organizer of the memorial service.

The vigil will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, March 15, at the McNeil Pavilion on Spencer Street in Candor.

The memorial service will include prayers, singing, speeches and dedications from community members. T-shirts and wristbands will be sold, and all money raised -- as well as donations -- will go directly to the Sorrentino family. Organizers ask all attendees to bring their own candle.
