Berkshire, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A mysterious and firey crash on an icy back road in the Town of Berkshire had investigators scratching their heads Wednesday evening.

Fire officials said the pickup truck lost control along North Ketchumville Road as it crested a hill. It then hit a culvert and flipped at least once, coming to rest on its roof before bursting into flames.

Crews arrived and quickly extinguished the fire. But when it came time to find the driver, he or she was gone.

The truck was without license plates, but not registration, which had to be cut from the windshield.

The Tioga County Sheriff's Office is trying to track down the owner of that registration.
