Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Binghamton Fire Marshal determines the cause of a fire on the City's East side earlier this week.

Investigators say this fire at 44 Griswold Street started in the stove area of one of the downstairs apartments.

The fire on Tuesday afternoon chased 9 adults and 9 children from their homes.

Several people who lived in the 6 unit apartment building had to be taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The Red Cross assisted people who were left homeless by the fire.
