Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A local church celebrated the Christmas season, all while bringing the Ukrainian community together.

The Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church held its annual Christmas Bazaar Saturday.

Hundreds of people came out to eat Ukrainian food, shop for Christmas gifts, and enjoy live music.

Most of the items were made locally or by church parishioners.

The Christmas spirit was alive and well at the bazaar, but so was Ukrainian pride.

Church leaders were happy to see many Ukrainians returning to the Southern Tier to celebrate their heritage.

"They come for the bazaar, they want to try our food, and their taking our food home," Pastor Teodor B. Czabala said. "So it's nice to meet family members coming back to their roots, which is this Binghamton area."

Funds raised from the bazaar will go back to the church for building renovations and other holiday festivals.
