Elmira, NY (WBNG Binghamton) An inmate from the Chemung County Jail escaped while being transported by a corrections officer.

On Friday at approximately 10 p.m., the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division was transporting Courtney Cade from the Arnot Ogden Medical Center back to jail after he received medical treatment.

Deputies said Cade kicked out the side window of the sheriff's vehicle and jumped head first out of the vehicle.

The vehicle was traveling south on Walnut Street in Elmira.

The corrections officer caught Cade after a very short foot chase.

Deputies said the inmate's ankles and hands were shackled at the time, which prevented him from getting far.

Cade had been sentenced to three years in New York State Prison and scheduled to be transferred later this week. Criminal charges for this escape are pending.
