Norwich, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Toys for Tots in Chenango County has lost a third of their toys from a storage fire.

The City of Norwich Fire Department responded to a fire at the Storage Center at 8 a.m. Friday in Norwich.

Firefighters arrived to heavy smoke pouring from the building, which holds 40 units.

“The fire easily spread from unit to unit due to the construction of the structure,” said Norwich Fire Chief Tracy Chawgo. “We had to use saws to open the door on all 40 units in order to ventilate and put out the fire.”

It took firefighters about an hour to extinguish the fire.

It's estimated that Chenango Toys for Tots lost between $8,000-$10,000 worth of toys for their annual toy drive.
