Child escapes domestic abuse incident; man arrested

Town of Plymouth, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A Chenango County man is arrested after a child is able to escape abuse at a town of Plymouth home.

According to the Chenango County Sheriff's Office, James S. Wilber, 39, was intoxicated when he kicked and threw items at a child, who investigators have only described as less than 15 years old.

Deputies said Wilber was also swinging an axe and destroyed many items inside the home.

The child was able to escape out a window and call 911 from a neighbor's home.

Wilber was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment in the second degree, menacing in the third degree, and endangering the welfare of a child and harassment.

He was taken to the Chenango County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.

He will appear at a later date in the town of Plymouth court.
