Childcare Costing More

It could cost you more money to send your child to day care, than to send a child to college.

A recent report released by the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies found that child care costs are exceeding food, household expenses, and even college costs.

Family Enrichment Network in Johnson City says the goal of the report is to show people just how expensive child care is.

It says most parents don't know how much it costs until they are ready to start a child in a day care program.

"For the last couple years we have compared the cost of child care locally to college tuition. The cost for any age, infant, toddler, or preschooler, in any type of setting, a home based setting or a child care setting, it's more expensive than sending your child to Broome Community College for a year. said Jennifer Perney.

The report says it costs about 6 thousand dollars a year to send a pre-schooler to a child care center.

Less than four thousand dollars a year to send a child to a two year school, like Broome Community College.
