Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It has been a cold and long winter and people around the southern tier are ready for it to be over.

The staff kids down at the Discovery Center decided to do something about it today.

They joined with people across the country participating in "Hoodie Hoo Day"

Kids at the center made silly hats, banged pots and pans together and and yelled "HOODIE HOO" as they attempted to "scare the winter away."

"They love it, you saw them in their parade, they enjoyed every second of it. They like making the funny hats, and yelling hoodie hoo," said Martha Steed. an employee at the Discovery Center.

This is the sixth year the discovery center has participated in the nationwide event..

They say it's a fun extra activity to do during school break when a lot of kids are there.
