Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A national group of Catholics are speaking up against their own religious traditions, coming out in support of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Women's Equality Agenda.

Catholics for Choice is a group that disagrees with the Catholic perspective on sexual orientation, birth control and abortion.

Domestic Program Director for Catholics for Choice Sara Hutchinson says she is speaking out now because of Cuomo's agenda.

The 10-point proposal wants to stop pregnancy discrimination, protect victims of domestic violence and protect a woman's freedom of choice.

Members of Catholics for Choice are also pro-choice.

"Women make choices everyday. Women certainly have the moral agency and understanding about what they need to take best care of themselves and their families. And Catholics for Choice support policies that take care of the whole person, including reproductive health," Hutchinson said.

According to a Siena Poll released in March, 72 percent of New York Catholics support the reproductive health provisions in the governor's agenda.
