Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The city of Binghamton has more than $300,000 to spend in the community and they asked local residents to help them spend it.
It's money coming from the federal Community Development Block Grant and Emergency Solutions Grant programs.
The ultimate goal of the funds is to create safer neighborhoods.
Binghamton received $365,000 to distribute to programs in the community, but first asked its residents where they thought the money should go.
"They want to see more public art, they want to see more innovative programming for youth, and they want to see stronger investments in seniors, homeless people and other vulnerable populations," said Director of Planning Tarik Abdelazim.
The deadline for submission of these projects is Oct. 9.
The city hopes to have winners by the end of the year so funding can be distributed for 2014.
