Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The annual Columbus Day Parade, Tournament of Bands and Italian Festival are canceled.

The events were scheduled for Monday, October 10.

The announcement was made by Ron Sall, President of the Downtown Binghamton Business Association and the Mirabito Family of Companies.

The Tournament of Bands featured local and regional high school bands, drum majors and color guards.

In a statement, Sall said “We rely on a number of organizations, high schools and volunteers to support the parade. With the extent of this year’s flooding still unfolding we believed everyone involved in the parade’s activities would be better served attending to clean-up and rebuilding efforts in their own neighborhoods and communities.”

The Columbus Day Parade is expected to return in 2012.

Mirabito has sponsored the parade for the past three years.

The tournament is sanctioned by the New York Federation of Contest Judges for Marching Bands.
