Community Begins Efforts to Help Windsor Family Rebuild Following Fire

February 1, 2013 Updated Feb 1, 2013 at 6:13 PM EDT

(WBNG Binghamton) In late January, the Warpus family lost their home and their belongings in a catastrophic house fire in Windsor, N.Y.

Marilyn Warpus, her granddaughter Kersten Lindsey, her 18-month-old son, and the baby’s father, James Dayton all survived the fire.  Marilyn was several days away from retirement. She, Kersten and James were all employees of Good Shepherd Fairview Home. The family has been temporarily relocated.

The Good Shepherd Communities Foundation provided immediate support through its Employee Disaster Fund, setup during the 2011 Flood to help assist in a catastrophic loss due to flooding or fire.

Additionally NBT Bank on Robinson Street in Binghamton has setup a temporary account, open until March 1, 2013.  Donations are encouraged to the “Marilyn Warpus Emergency Fund”.

Members of the community are also encouraged to assist the family.
