Ithaca, NY (WBNG Binghamton) - The Community School of Music and Art is open after a dump truck slammed into the building Thursday.

Police say the driver of a dump truck heading down East State Street lost control of the vehicle.

It then rolled over, crushing two empty cars, and then smashed into the building in Ithaca.

Two music rooms were extensively damaged and remained closed Friday.

The impact sent glass and bricks into the rooms, destroying a piano.

The executive director was in her office next to those rooms when the crash happened.

She says it startled everyone in the building.

"It sounded like a train wreck coming into the building. We didn't know what happened. It was a screeching noise and a very large crashing sound," said Executive Director Robin Tropper-Herbel.

She also suffered minor cuts from flying glass.

Inspectors say the building is structurally sound.

Classes will continue while the damage is being assessed.
