Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Since September's flooding, there have been countless warnings about contractors going door-to-door offering home repairs, but only taking the homeowner's money.

New York State Police has now arrested a man they suspect was one of those phony contractors.

Christopher T. Bell, 39, whose address is not known, was arrested Tuesday for scheme to defraud in the first degree.

According to state police, he spent the past month going door to door soliciting home repairs and paving jobs throughout the Town of Union. But after signing a contract and getting a down payment, they say he wouldn't return to do the work.

Bell was arraigned and sent to the Broome County Jail without bail.

State police are still investigating and ask anyone with information to call the station in Endwell at (607) 754-3854.
