Child dies in Richford fire

Richford, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A 4-year-old boy died Tuesday afternoon during a house fire.

Fire crews responded around 12:29 p.m. to 9266 West Creek Road. Upon arrival the home was fully engulfed in flames.

The Tioga County Coroner's Office pronounced Trent Hulse dead at the scene.

Tioga County Fire Coordinator John Scott said his parents William and Leanna Hulse and two daughters Haley, 6, and Isabella, 2, were able to escape.

Scott said the Hulses, neighbors and firefighter tried to save Trent but were unable to rescue the child. William Hulse's hands were burned.

The Tioga Fire Bureau said the home was a loss and is investigating the cause.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family.

The Richford, Berkshire, Newark Valley, Speedsville, Slaterville, Weltonville fire departments and Bangs Ambulance all responded.
