Town of Kirkwood, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Broome County Sheriff's Office arrests a man and a woman for endangering the welfare of a child after drugs are found at their home in sight and in reach of children.
On Friday morning, Derek Greene, 19, and Danielle Starks, 21, both of the Town of Kirkwood, were arrested. Both are charged with endangering the welfare of a child, criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic instrument. All are misdemeanor charges.
Deputies responded to their home on Johnson Road at the request of Broome County Child Protective Services to check the welfare of children being in the presence of drugs and related drug use materials.
The Sheriff's Office says Greene and Starks were found to be endangering the welfare of a 3-year-old child and an infant in their care. Authorities say drugs and drug paraphernalia were found to be in plain view and easily accessible to children in the home.
Both Greene and Starks were taken into custody and sent to the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility.
The two children were placed in the custody of a relative.
