Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A single-car crash along Oakdale Road here left residents without power, and a long night ahead for electric workers.

The crash happened after 9 p.m. Tuesday on Oakdale Road near the town line, according to emergency workers on the scene.

A car swerved off the road into a telephone pole, severing electric wires and sparking a transformer. The transformer later caught fire, according to crews on the scene. The fire was extinguished within minutes of fire crews' arrival.

The road was blocked at both ends, and emergency workers said crews from NYSEG would likely be working through the night Tuesday and early morning hours of Wednesday to fix the damage.

There were two people in the car at the time. Their injuries are not considered serious, police said. It's not known if the driver was cited.

It's also not known how many people are without power. As of midnight, NYSEG did not include the crash or the power disruption as part of its outage information on its website.
