Endwell, NY (WBNG-Binghamton) Republican Denver Jones officially announced his candidacy for the New York Senate Wednesday night, setting up a primary between he and longtime Senator Tom Libous, R-52.

Jones made his announcement at the Brothers 2 restaurant in Endwell.

Jones has made himself very clear on his stance about repealing the SAFE Act and making sure the people can maintain their Second Amendment right.

Jones said that although he may not have experience in politics, he won't let that stop him from doing something in which he believes.

"I have never been in politics before, my background is manufacturing, engineering. I have to make a lot of decisions that come back to me. I can't point to everyone else and say it's their fault," said Denver Jones,

Jones received more than 1,700 signatures on his petition to run for the State Senate seat. Libous, meanwhile, announced earlier this month he would run for reelection, amid a fight in federal court over charges that he lied to the FBI.
