Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It was the largest attendance ever at the Dick's Sporting Goods Open. The tournament wrapped up another successful year and organizers are already planning on a bigger and better event next year.
Tournament Director John Karedes said they do not take a calculated attendance, but with all the events last week, including the Tim McGraw concert, Wendy's Walk For Kids and great weather, it was easily the largest crowd they've ever seen.
"All in all it should be the greatest number attendance-wise we've ever had at the Dick's Sporting Goods Open," Karedes said. "A lot has to shake out in the next week but I expect it to be a good year."
Grand stands, jumbo screens and Champions Tour flags were all coming off the course Monday. It took six weeks to prepare for the tournament, but they expect to have everything cleaned up within 10 days.
Vendors are tearing down their tents, but the golf course is ready for play. En-Joie Golf Club reopens to the public Tuesday morning.
"All I can do is encourage anyone that's a golf fan," Karedes said, "It's in tremendous shape. The players were happy, I think they leave it set up pretty much like it was for the final round. If you want to come play where the pros just played, come on down here."
In the upcoming weeks Karedes will be dividing up proceeds to go toward local charities.
