Binghamton, NY (WBNG) When Denise Getchell found out she was in charge of her two nephews and niece Saturday, she decided The Discovery Center would be the place to go.
"It's after the holiday season and the winter doldrums has set in, so I'll look for fun things for the kids to do," Getchell said.
Weekends mean a special treat with the program "Explore and More."
"It's either a demonstration, an experiment, or a hands on craft that you make and take with you," said Director of Marketing Martha Steed. "It's just something a little extra for your visit on the weekend."
For the first session of the new year, kids made "oobleck," like the goo in Dr. Seuss' book "Bartholomew and Oobleck."
"We used the starch and then we put in color,' said Emma Dakin, Getchell's niece. "And then we put a little bit of water in it and had to knead it down."
If it's cold outside, activities like this are a great option to get out, but stay warm, Getchell said.
"You can get out of the weather and not have to sit at home, watch TV or something like that," Getchell said. "They can be around other kids and spend time with me."
Getchell said she will be back this winter with her family.
"Explore and More" runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays.
