Town of Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The town of Owego is hoping to have its dog park ready for local pooches by the time construction begins in Hickories Park this fall.

The plan was first proposed by the Owego Dog Owners Group and has been in talks for the past several months.

Wednesday's meeting in the Owego Town Hall was the latest in this ongoing discussion.

While there haven't been too many concerns, Town Supervisor Donald Castellucci Jr. said one main question remains: Who will maintain the nearly three-acre parcel. Castellucci hopes the town will not have to foot the entire bill.

Otherwise, he hopes to have it in place soon.

"It's going to enhance the community. It's going to enhance the park. When people go down there, they will have something else to do there," said Castellucci.

The next step will be a public hearing and then a vote, which Castellucci said will be scheduled during the next town meeting in September.

He hopes ground can be broken along with other construction projects planned for the park, including one to expand sewer capacity and install sewer hookups at the camping sites.

As Action News first reported Monday, that project was helped along by an anonymous $100,000 donation.
