Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Could you run or walk one hundred miles in ten months? Dozens of young students did, and were recognized Monday.

Students at Vestal Hills Elementary received medals for walking or running 100 miles in a school year, which was their goal set last September.

In all, students and staff accumulated 8700 miles during the year.

"They're out running 5k's, they're running 10k's, they're doing extra stuff to earn these miles and just getting fit in the process," said Physical Education Teacher Crystal Harvey

The the club is part of a wellness initiative promoted by First Lady Michelle Obama's. The 100 Mile Club has been around since 1993.
