Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It's been more than 20 years since a drive-in movie theater was open in the Southern Tier. On Saturday, a unique screen will light up Vestal.

Workers were out setting up for the Matthews Summer Drive-In Movie series in the lot behind Lowe's on Old Vestal Road Wednesday afternoon.

The auto company is bringing in an inflatable screen that is 28 feet tall and 40 feet wide, which is something Vestal hasn't seen since the V Drive-In, in Vestal, closed in the 1980s.

"We've all been a part of this community for years and years, we all remember going to the V Drive-In when we were kids, or the Airport Drive-In," said marketing director Kathy Breno, "since 1987, all of the drive-in movies have been closed around here, so we thought what fun it would be to bring it back."

This weekend, June 28 and 29, the auto group will be showing the movie Frozen. Gates will open at 7 p.m. with the movie starting at dusk, roughly 8:45 p.m.

Matthews said they are planning to have movies on July 26 and August 30 as well.

These drive-in showings are only open to Matthews customers. If you are a Matthews customer, click here for more information.

There are drive-in theaters open to the public in Unadilla and Elmira.
