A dump truck driver is trapped in his vehicle after rolling it in downtown Ithaca.

The Ithaca Fire Department says around 3:30 Thursday afternoon, a fully-loaded dump truck was coming down the East Hill and lost control trying to turn onto Seneca Way.

The truck rolled over onto two empty cars on East State Street, just a block away from the Ithaca Commons. It was leaning against the Community School of Music and Art (CMSA) Building.

When firefighters arrived, they found the driver trapped inside the cab. It took 20 minutes to pull the man from the truck. He was taken by helicopter to Robert Packer Hospital.

Firefighters evacuated the CMSA building, which suffered significant damage in the crash. However, the Ithaca Building Department, a structural engineer and an architect inspected the building and say it's structurally sound.

The Building Department says the building can't be used until repairs are made, though.

Ithaca Police and State Police are investigating the crash.
