The United States Geological Survey reports a magnitude 5.8 earthquake in the state of Virginia, and many people in the Twin Tiers say they felt the ground shake beneath them.
At 1:51 P.M., The National Earthquake Information Center reports the earthquake began in the Richmond, Virginia area.
The 'quake reports stretched as far as Washington, DC.
Here in the Twin Tiers, numerous phone calls, Facebook comments, and online reports to Action News indicate people felt shaking from places such as Binghamton, Endicott, Maine, Conklin, Walton, and Oneonta.
So far, no significant damage has been reported.
A 4.2 magnitude aftershock has been reported. It occurred around 8:04pm Tuesday evening near the epicenter of the previous quake.
