Johnson City, N.Y. (WBNG Binghamton) Although Easter egg hunts are a popular part of the celebrating Easter, on Sunday, thousands took part in the oldest Easter tradition of them all.

About 2,000 people attended Easter mass at St. James throughout the day. The church's Easter service revolves around celebration and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Deacons at the church called this the most important day of the year. "It's the holiest day of the year," said Deacon Ed Blaine of St. James.

The church had four masses throughout the day and the most popular mass was the 10 a.m. mass.
