Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A group of parents made a stand against the Owego-Apalachin School District policies involving Common Core testing.
The parents protested in downtown Owego, near the county courthouse on Sunday afternoon.
They are upset that their children are required to sit at their desks without any work, while other students take state mandated tests.
The protestors called it a 'sit and stare' policy, and said it's only purpose is to punish their children for refusing to take the test.
"If you refuse the test, you have be at your desk for the whole testing period and sit and do nothing else. We want to bring awareness that that's not okay with us," said one parent, Michelle Wilkeson.
Protestors also voiced concerns on the school's 'bully tactics.'
"They are not allowed to have any alternative learning activity during the test at all, and it's a bully tactic in order to get parents to make their children test," said Theresa Rai.
The parents also called the entire implementation of the Common Core a failure.
